What is a fixed bridge?
A fixed bridge is a non-removable dental restoration used to replace one missing tooth or a few missing teeth in a row. The bridge is fixed in place through the use of two dental crowns, which are attached to the natural teeth or dental implants neighboring the gap. These crowns hold the replacement tooth, called a pontic, in the gap left by the missing tooth. Because the bridge is fixed in place by the crowns, it will not easily shift or come loose in your mouth. This results in a stable, strong restoration that is similar to your natural teeth and, with proper care, will last for many years.
Do I need a bridge?
Our dentist may suggest a bridge as a restorative option for your smile if you have lost one tooth or a couple of teeth in a row. Usually, a dental bridge in Richmond, Kentucky, is used to replace no more than three teeth in a row. When in place, a fixed bridge can improve your smile by:
- Preventing the remaining teeth from moving into the space left by the missing teeth
- Improving your ability to chew, eat, and speak as normal
- Restoring the beauty of your smile
