What is good dental hygiene?
While visiting the dentist on a regular basis is very important to maintaining good oral health, it is even more important that you care for your smile on a daily basis through good dental hygiene. This includes practicing a number of habits that all contribute to a healthy, beautiful smile. As part of good dental hygiene, our dentist and dental team recommend that you:
- Brush your teeth after each meal or at least two times every day. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Floss at least once a day. The most important time to floss is right before you go to sleep at night, but you can floss more than once a day, such as after meals.
- Maintain a balanced, healthy diet. Avoiding excessive consumption of very sugary and acidic foods can help to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems.
- Use any other dental care products, such as mouth rinse, as directed by your dentist.
