Did you know that missing a tooth can be a serious problem? Aside from being embarrassing, missing teeth can actually leave you more vulnerable to gum disease, tooth decay, loss of supporting bone structure, and even shifting teeth—which can lead to a number of other serious problems. Fortunately, there are several options you could choose to replace your missing teeth, including dental implants.

Like most restorations, dental implants are designed to look and function like your natural teeth do. Dental implants are also extremely durable. In fact, they can last a lifetime if they’re cared for well. But even if implants are damaged, they’re generally easy to repair.

Dental implants are actually placed in the jawbone. While this may not seem appealing, placing implants in the jawbone stimulates bone grown, which in turn prevents bone loss associated with missing teeth. If you decide on an implant, you’ll have to care for your teeth well in order to maintain the implant. We recommend giving up tobacco products, scheduling regular checkups, and brushing and flossing daily.

Once your implant has been placed, you’ll be able to chew and eat comfortably again. Because your implant is secured to your jawbone, it should be extremely sturdy. You should also be able to easily make sounds that may have been difficult to pronounce properly before.
