If you want a strong and successful smile, then you need to keep your teeth in tip-top shape. In order to keep your teeth in tip-top shape, you need to maintain strong enamel. The enamel is the outer shell of your teeth, and there are many things that can damage it and promote dental issues. To help you protect your tooth enamel, Dr. Susan A. Vanstone and our dental team have some tips for you.
Tip No. 1: Brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste twice a day for two minutes each time. Doing so will wash harmful particles away from your enamel. The fluoride toothpaste can also strengthen and nourish your enamel, giving your teeth the ability to fight tooth decay and other problems.
Tip No. 2: Floss your teeth with an easy-to-use flossing tool at least once a day. This is important because harmful particles oftentimes get stuck between the teeth. When they are there, they threaten the enamel and begin to wear it down. It’s best to wash them away as much as possible.
Tip No. 3: Avoid eating and drinking acidic foods and beverages. This is recommended because acid attacks the enamel and wears it down. If you absolutely have to drink an acidic drink, please do so through a straw so it passes your teeth and limits enamel exposure.
